This past weekend I hit burnout in a big way. When Friday rolled around my brain sizzled and fizzled out until there was nothing left but a pile of mush. Balancing three jobs will do that to you. Add the death of my beloved iPad, the task of homeschooling four kiddos, and an upcoming book release, it's a miracle I didn't hit total meltdown earlier.
I stepped back from the computer, gave the kids a couple of days off and totally did what I wanted, which didn't include anything work related. I grabbed a paperback--remember no iPad--tossed myself on the bed and enjoyed a little me time. I cooked a kick-ass dinner for my brood and even enjoyed some Kinect games, something I don't get to do a lot with my eighteen hour work days.
People think that because I work at home I get all the free time I can handle. Think again! It's actually the other way around. I'm ALWAYS on mom duty since there's no sending them off to school (not complaining, it's just my truth) and my #1 also works from home so there's that. 0-o
There's always work to be done, someone that needs me to do something for them in the house, and then my own work load. Everyone has a breaking point. I found mine around noon last Friday. It's also the time my iPad with ALL my scheduled dates, reference notes for my writing and new book ideas was lost.
The apocalypse of burn-outs arrived.
I knew my limits, so I stepped back from work and let the world of social media revolve without my two cents for a few days.
And you know what, when I disconnected, everything feel into place. Ideas started flowing and I listened. But I let them brew. I didn't run back to the computer. I listened and waited.
Come Monday morning, all bets were off. I woke up, my feet hit the floor and the devil himself shivered with fear!
My mojo is back and I'm on fire. All I needed was a moment to myself so I could listen to what mattered most to me.
If you're experiencing the onset of your own apocalypse, unplug from the world and take a break. It's a sign that your mind needs a break, then when you're ready come back and take the world by storm.
Stay in the loop!
